class reference

For my class we had to come up with a number of reference images to establish the style and color pallette of the film. I have poste min online here.

sketchin sketchin sketchin

Here are some scans of sketches I'm working on for class. This is my design for Glinda the Good Witch who, in my story, runs a brothel. She is of course a witch. I've been doing a lot of witch designs lately...maybe its a Buffy thing. Overall I think they are ok, the first one os based on Uma Thurman. Some persepective problems and the shading is kinda wimpy. My biggest problem is that they need something else, something added to make the character more spectacular. I googled "cleavage" to find some reference to get the boob shading right. then of course I mucked it up by adding, and then removing, a tattoo. I'm not completely sold on the prosma color/Bienfang combo. I have a lot of trouble erasing and moving the shading around. Maybe its just me, I still like graphite. Ok, enough talk...

workin workin workin

I've been working all weekend on this ESPN project. It's at a slightly more stressful phase now, just hoping things render OK. I've been doing my Gnomon homework while rendering, drawing more hot babes for class. If I get time I'll write out a synopsis of the plot for my story. Its essentially the Wizard of Oz done as a Spagetti Western in the style of Terry Gilliam.The character I'm doing for class is Glinda the Good Witch of the North. I'll post some drawings when I get a chance. So far I'm pleased but its turning out to be more costume than character design. This week i have to figure out how to create her in Zbrush.

I'm thinking of doing a series of Maya tutorials called "101 things to do with a Ramp Texture." Maybe I'll start out with a more reasonable number like 15 and work my way up to 101.

Every once in a while I pick up my guitar these days, figuring out the guitar parts in "Driving South" by Jimmi Hendrix. Occaisionally I'm nostalgic for my guitar playing days. In some ways figuring out guitar solos is like working in Maya.

Hope to post some images oon, maybe I'll get a break in July.

crash coffee class

Saw a guy hit buy a car today. he got up and walekd away so I guess he's all right, betcha he's gonna be sore in the morning. Then my wife and I got a cup of coffee which is while I'm still awake. My gig with The Syndicate is going well, I'm enjoying working with this group of people and so far my animations are on track.

My character work flow class with Neville Page started tonight. Extremely cool so far. This is what I want out of a character design class, plus the guy sitting next to me was Meats Mier. Good company to be with. I have a pretty good idea about what I will do for my class assignment. This means I'm putting off my 3d voodoo chick character until after this class is done. I'm a little burnt out on that concept anyways. Hopefully i will redo her and the dwarf when my class is done. I'm hoping this class will help me speed up my work flow so I can churn out more character designs faster.

last class

well, I will be in Vegas with my wife next Sunday celebrating our anniversery. Unfortunately this means I will miss my last Zbrush class at Gnomon, but, hey, that's a good reason to miss class! Here is my model which I played with in class today. I created a new color map, however the texture was too big to email back to myself so i'll have to redo some of the work on the next version.

Here's a skull I made yesterday to help my brother with his yoga manual:

I cut out the teeth and added to the next version of my Ju Ju Queen model which I hope to get to soon...

Scott Spencer's class was great, sadly 5 weeks is a short time, but this Tuesday i start my class with Neville Page!
